Fresh dates

This page puts our fresh dates in one place: the soft, moist rotab packs, Rotab Bam and Mazafati from Iran and Sukkary from Saudi Arabia, so you can compare and buy quickly. Green Diamond imports its dates directly from the producing countries and has been a date wholesaler for more than 40 years. As Pemborong Kurma Green Diamond, we sell at wholesale prices direct from the factory. The table below shows plainly which packs are in stock and which have sold out.

For the full commercial range, browse the Fresh Dates category and our Rotab Mazafati Bam page. The Malay page on the same dates is kurma segar.

What are fresh (rotab) dates?

Rotab (rutab) is the soft-ripe stage of a date, before it reaches the drier tamr stage. The FAO’s date palm handbook gives the meaning of the word as “wet”. It also warns that at this stage, unless the fruit is cold stored, it quickly turns sour. Every rotab product page on this site says to keep the pack in the fridge.

Iranian Mazafati from Bam is sold here as Rotab Mazafati Bam. It is dark brown, very soft and sweet like honey, and is often sold as kurma madu.

What a good rotab date is like

Soft and moist right through. That is the whole point of buying rotab instead of a drier date. Mazafati has dark brown, moist flesh that melts in the mouth, and Rotab Sukkary is golden with a soft, sandy texture that also melts. A sour taste is the warning sign, since souring is exactly what the FAO says happens to rotab kept out of cold storage.

Why buy from Green Diamond?

We import directly from the producing countries, so there is no middleman’s markup in the price. Green Diamond has been a date wholesaler and supplier for more than 40 years, and it keeps its own stock at its premises in Seri Kembangan.

We are not only an online seller. Our shop is at No.14, Jalan BPP 8/2, Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, Selangor. It opens Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm, and is closed on Sunday.

Storage tips

Rotab Mazafati and Rotab Sukkary both go in the fridge, according to their product pages. For longer keeping, the same pages say the freezer. Eat them straight from the pack, cold if you like.

Mazafati on the nutrition label

The only Mazafati record in USDA FoodData Central is a branded US label (Sadaf), not a laboratory analysis. That label lists 7g of fibre and 696mg of potassium per 100g serving. Eat them in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
